Donald Trump’s glamorous former aide has sparked a widespread backlash on social media after she took to Instagram to support the president after he appeared to fall asleep again.
Businesswoman Jayme Leagh Franklin, who worked for Trump during his first administration, joined him in the Oval Office of the White House on Monday (August 10), as he signed a new executive order.
The order calls for fewer childhood vaccines and recommends splitting the mumps, measles and rubella (MMR) shots.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “Decades ago, children received only a small fraction of the vaccines required today. In those times, people were much healthier and of course the high rates of autism now observed did not exist.”
Trump was joined by Franklin and RFK Jr during the signing event, but appeared to fall asleep at one point. It comes after Trump was unwittingly humiliated by an aide who filmed him struggling to walk.
Franklin took to Instagram to share a picture of her time in the White House and wrote alongside it: “I was so honored to join President Trump in the Oval Office today for the signing of an Executive Order recognizing Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations. This is an important step toward maximizing parental choice and aligning childhood immunization recommendations with scientific evidence and best practices from peer developed countries.”
The post went on to say: “As a mom, I care deeply about the health of our nation, and especially the well-being of our children. Parents deserve the freedom to make informed decisions about their children’s health in consultation with their pediatricians, without government pressure or coercion.
“Parents know their children best. They should be empowered with transparent information, sound science, and the freedom to make the choices they believe are right for their families.”
She concluded: “I’m grateful to President Trump and his administration for putting parents back at the center of these deeply personal decisions and for continuing to champion healthier families and a healthier America.”
While Franklin made no mention of the moment Trump was caught nodding off, her Instagram followers couldn’t resist commenting on it.
“A photo with him awake! Pulitzer Prize worthy,” one person quipped.
Another Instagram user asked, “Did you notice when he was sleeping ? ? ? you should post the whole live lol,” while someone else echoed, “How did you not start laughing when Donny fell asleep in the meeting?”
A fourth fumed: “The unqualified, unhinged wacko slept through the whole thing.”
At various points during Trump’s White House meeting, he was seen slumped in his chair and appeared to be asleep while other people spoke behind him, reports the Irish Star.
