OPINION: We tried the world’s first Pink Sriracha after it landed in the UK – and the Daily Star team has delivered its verdict on the fruity sauce with a fiery kick
Forget the usual red drizzle – this hot sauce is bright pink, fruity and packs a proper chilli punch.
There are plenty of ways to spice up your dinner, but bright pink hot sauce probably isn’t one that immediately springs to mind. That has now changed, with the world’s first-ever Pink Sriracha arriving in the UK – and we headed along to Pho to put it through its paces. The vibrant condiment is available exclusively at Pho restaurants across the UK throughout August, giving spice fans the chance to try something rather different.
So, what makes it pink? Unlike traditional Sriracha, the new sauce gets its striking colour from hibiscus flower. It is made using premium-quality white Thai chillies grown exclusively in northern Thailand, giving it a serious chilli kick beneath the sweet-looking exterior.
The hibiscus brings an initial fruity note before the heat starts to build, creating what Pho describes as a “fricy” combination of fruity and spicy flavours.
And after putting it to the Daily Star taste test, we can confirm it certainly isn’t all about the colour.
The sauce brings a noticeable sweetness before the chilli heat kicks in, making it a surprisingly versatile addition to food. If you’re expecting something that tastes like a traditional Sriracha but simply happens to be pink, there is more going on here.
To celebrate the launch, Pho has also introduced its £5 “Pink Wednesdays” menu throughout August.
The deal is available to anyone wearing pink when they visit a participating Pho restaurant on a Wednesday.
Options include a Spicy Pink Margarita made with tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, dragonfruit and Thai chillies, alongside crispy spring rolls and summer rolls.
There are also crispy chicken wings served with Pink Sriracha, plus ice cream and sorbet from Hackney Gelato.
The ice cream comes in honey and ginger or Madagascan vanilla, while sorbet flavours include raspberry, mango, coconut and dark chocolate.
Libby Andrews, Marketing Director at Pho, said: “Not only does the new SABZU Pink Sriracha look amazing, it is delicious and so fun for summer. We are really excited to be the only place in the UK to serve it for the month of August.”
Dan Pathomvanich, CEO of Bamboomart, said: “We are committed to bringing the authentic taste of Thailand to consumers around the world. Our partnership with Pho marks an exciting milestone for SABZU as we introduce the world’s first-ever Pink Sriracha sauce exclusively across the UK.
“We believe Pink Sriracha perfectly captures today’s appetite for bold, playful flavours while staying true to authentic Thai ingredients, and we are proud to bring this exclusive collaboration to life with one of the UK’s most loved Vietnamese restaurant brands.”
The Pink Sriracha is available at Pho restaurants nationwide and on Deliveroo until the end of August.
The £5 menu excludes Pho’s restaurants in Westfield, Stratford and Leeds, while the Scottish menu does not include the Spicy Pink Margarita.nclude spicy pink margarita.
