Two frantic tourists sparked a major airport security lockdown after running onto the tarmac to flag down a plane they had missed. The desperate pair broke through to the restricted aircraft apron at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport in a last-ditch bid to board the departing Aeroflot jet.
Video footage captured during the incident on July 25 shows the duo sprinting across the runway with their suitcases in tow as the giant airliner began taxiing away from the gate.
One of the women could be seen wildly waving her arms at the plane in the hope that the pilot would slam on the brakes and let them on.
The passengers had turned up late for their flight and missed the final boarding call.
But instead of heading to the airline desk to rebook, they took matters into their own hands and sneaked out onto the tarmac.
Ground staff were forced to freeze all operations after spotting the duo darting around moving vehicles and heavy machinery.
The pair, who had already cleared main security checks before slipping outside, were quickly tackled by airport staff before being carted off and handed over to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
It’s been warned that the women put themselves in severe danger, as jet aprons are high-risk zones packed with moving aircraft, towing tugs and support vehicles.
Footage of the runway dash quickly went viral, with social media users left stunned by the brazen stunt.
It isn’t the first time an impatient traveller in Russia has tried to chase down a taxiing jet.
Back in May, a bloke missed his flight after getting trapped inside an airport toilet.
Realising his plane was pushing back, he dashed onto the tarmac to try and stop it, only to be left in the dust and slapped with a fine of around £30.
