Cody Gakpo is reportedly closing in on a transfer to Tottenham with Liverpool set to profit in the transfer market as they look to sign PSG’s Bradley Barcola
Cody Gakpo has reportedly agreed personal terms on a switch to Tottenham as Liverpool continue to rebuild their frontline.
The 27-year-old Dutchman scored seven times in 36 Premier League games last season for the Reds but has been unable to consistently put in good performances and has been a frustrating figure for Liverpool fans since his move from PSV in January 2023.
While it’s been a summer of transformation for Liverpool’s frontline after Mohamed Salah left the club at the end of last season. Andoni Iraola has been keen to revamp his attacking options, with PSG’s Bradley Barcola the primary target, but his current £130million asking price proving to be a stumbling block.

However, Gakpo has emerged as another attacker who could be free to leave Anfield and Tottenham’s pursuit of the Dutchman has been extensively discussed throughout the summer as they pursue their own squad reconstruction, overseen by Roberto De Zerbi.
Dutch publication Voetbal International even suggests that a deal on personal terms has already been reached, with both clubs and the player himself ‘expecting a favourable outcome’.
Spurs have already invested heavily in the transfer market after barely escaping relegation from the Premier League on the campaign’s final day, with signings of Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke totalling approximately £237m. They are also anticipated to chase a deal for Manchester City’s Savinho before the transfer window closes.
Liverpool have brought in just one fresh attacker to their ranks so far this summer after pipping Newcastle to a deal for the Osasuna winger, Victor Munoz.
He functions mainly on the left flank, while Rio Ngumoha is anticipated to be handed a more prominent role this campaign after impressing in brief outings last term.
Latest reports have suggested that Liverpool are set to halt their pursuit of Barcola given the European champions’ enormous valuation of the 23-year-old, with claims that they would require at least £145m to approve his exit.
PSG have just completed a €55million (£48m) deal to secure the Ajax winger, Mika Godts, to Paris, however, which could suggest that they are already preparing for life beyond the Frenchman.
