Grab snacks are being recalled amid fears they could make people seriously ill and cause kidney failure. A whole load of lunch bits have been called back to shops as it is feared they could contain bacteria which can cause kidney failure and even be fatal.
Summit Foods is recalling the Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap due to the possible presence of dangerous Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC).
The recall applies to all use-by dates up to and including September 5, 2026, the company said.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned anyone who may have bought any of the affected items to not eat them and to return them to the store they bought it from or dispose of it.
STEC is a bacteria that can cause severe diarrhoea and abdominal pain.
In some cases it can cause haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.
The bacteria can also spread to other people if you are infected, and it is advised that anyone experiencing symptoms should stay away from others until they have been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours to reduce the risk of making others ill.
Notices will be displayed in stores and websites selling the affected wraps.
An FSA statement said: “Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.
“If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.”
The Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap item was being sold at Iceland and Bestway Wholesale.
They further advised that people should “dispose of the product and provide proof of purchase on sales@summitfoods.co.uk, stating when and where it was purchased, for a full refund”.
STEC can affect the vulnerable worse too – this includes children under five, adults over 65, and people with weakened immune systems among those most at risk.
