Max Verstappen crashed out of his home race

Max Verstappen crashed out on the opening lap of his home Dutch Grand Prix after losing control and smashing into a concrete wall.

The Dutchman terrifyingly lost control of his car at the final corner on the slippery Zandvoort track and was a passenger as his RB22 slammed into the wall on the outside of the track.

Verstappen thankfully reported over the team radio that he was ‘ok’ – a huge relief given the horrible nature of the impact at near full speed.

Gabriel Bortoleto also spun just behind Verstappen but was able to keep his Audi going. Incredibly, Verstappen was not hit by any drivers running behind him as his car ended up on the inside line of the track. The race was quickly red flagged.
