During an address at the Rose Garden earlier today (August 24), the US President appeared to be catching up on some much, much needed beauty sleep, with footage circulating on social media
Donald Trump appeared to fall asleep while making an address at the Rose Garden today (August 24).
After speaking about “expanding school choice”, the US President looked like he was in much need of 40 winks. A short clip of him closing his eyes was posted to X, with the caption: “Ok guys, I think Trump nodded off here at the Rose Garden.”
It’s not the first time Trump’s been dubbed as “sleepy” – there have been several times during his second tenure as president where he’s been caught “napping”. In April this year Trump was in attendance at the White House as his administration announced changes to its policy on child vaccinations. However, clips shared on X appeared to show the President dozing off midway through the briefing.
Journalist Aaron Rupar tweeted: “Holy s*** Trump is OUT.”
Posting another clip from the same briefing, Rupar added: “Trump’s body language is crazy. This woman is trying to talk to him and he can’t keep his eyes open!”
Another posted: “That pretty much sums up the sorry state of our republic. A circus with a declining octogenarian at the helm. This is not normal, but for republicans and their enablers it is. America is asleep and all Republicans are cowardly sell-outs.”
One user said: “Why hasn’t ‘Sleepy Donny’ made the rounds yet?”
Others did come to the defence of the apparently drowsy president, with one user posting: “Instead of obsessing over whether others are asleep, it is better to spend more time making your own life easier. Even if he were asleep, would your life be better?”.
Previous occasions when the US President supposedly dozed off included a ‘Making Health Technology Great Again’ event at the White House last summer, and a cabinet meeting. Recently, Mr Trump also sparked further speculation about his health following a TV appearance that captured him disembarking Air Force One while repeatedly patting his leg as he made his way down the aircraft’s steps.
The latest nod-fest comes as Trump lashed out at Canada on Truth Social, writing that Canada wants “the benefits of being a State, without being one!!!”. He accused Ottawa of charging American farmers “massive amounts of Tariffs” for years, concluding with “No more!!!”
