Deliveroo has officially crowned its first ever Takeaway of the Summer 2026, as orders for popular dish surges.

Deliveroo has officially announced its inaugural Takeaway of the Summer 2026, and the winner is the Chicken Shawarma Wrap.

This marks the first time Deliveroo has named a Takeaway of the Summer, with the annual reveal set to become a new fixture in the company’s food trends calendar.

Despite the exceptionally hot weather, Brits have turned to hot, hearty shawarma wraps, instead of something colder.

In fact, fresh Deliveroo data reveals that orders for Chicken Shawarma Wraps have soared by over 70% this summer compared to last, firmly placing shawarma at the top of Britain’s most loved takeaways this summer.

The surge in demand has been so substantial that over half of the restaurants selling shawarma on Deliveroo this summer didn’t even offer it a year ago.

And this isn’t down to one major chain adding a new item to their menu. Independent restaurants, from Lebanese kitchens to late-night grills, have decided its menu needs the mighty chicken wrap.

As part of the analysis, Deliveroo examined which takeaway cuisines recorded the biggest increases in demand this summer compared with the same period last year, highlighting the tastes and trends that defined the season.

The Shawarma proved to be an evening dish through and through as orders on Deliveroo peak at 7pm, with Friday by far the busiest Shawarma loving day.

Deliveroo has also revealed the UK cities leading the shawarma charge, with Coventry taking the title of Britain’s Shawarma capital this summer.
