King Charles is reportedly hopeful that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK could see the end of the long-running feud between Prince William and Prince Harry
King Charles ‘wants Harry and William to reunite’ following Harry’s arrival in the UK after previously warning his sons ‘don’t make my final years a misery’.
The monarch is reportedly optimistic that his youngest son’s return to the UK could herald the conclusion of the bitter rift between the siblings.
Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle, 45, touched down in Birmingham on Wednesday for their ‘prolonged’ visit to the UK, six years after they relinquished their roles as working royals and moved to America in what was dubbed ‘Megxit‘.
The family are expected to reside in a private non-royal residence and will retain their current royal status unchanged.
King Charles, who remains under cancer treatment, is understood to be delighted that Harry has come back to the UK and anticipates spending additional time with him and his loved ones.
It’s reported that the move marks the first step towards healing relations with the Royal Family after the devastating breakdown following the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties in 2020.
Speaking about the King’s perspective on this potential reconciliation, a source close to the royal household told People: “He will want to see his sons together over time.
“This is the best opportunity we have seen in recent years.”
Harry, alongside his children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, called on the King in July at Highgrove, demonstrating the gradual progress in their bond.
The source added: “That was a real positive,” explaining why the King desires the same reunion for his sons. Harry and his elder brother William, 44, have remained distant for years following ‘tell-all’ television interviews and the publication of Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare.
In Harry’s explosive book, he recounted a moment following Prince Philip’s funeral in 2021 when Charles implored his sons: “Please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery.”
Five years later, it appears Charles’ wish for his sons to reconcile persists, and now there’s considerably greater potential for this to occur as Harry will be residing on British soil.
Reconciliation won’t be simple, as it’s understood the brothers still ‘do not speak’.
Harry’s relationship with his father also remains rather complex, with Charles only discovering his intentions to relocate just days before the news went public.
