The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the UK with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and a former friend of Meghan has said she is likely to have “mixed emotions” about the move
Meghan Markle is likely to be experiencing “very mixed emotions” after touching down in Britain yesterday, a former friend of the duchess has claimed. On Wednesday, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in the UK alongside their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to establish a home in the country.
The relocation follows the family spending the past six years residing in Montecito, California – a shift they made after Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in the UK in 2020. While the family are retaining their Montecito mansion, it is understood they are poised to make the UK their primary base, with their children already registered at a British school.
The whereabouts of their non-royal UK residence, which lies outside of London, has not been revealed. Although Harry, 41, is likely to be thrilled to be residing back in the nation where he was raised, a former friend of Meghan Markle suggested she is probably experiencing more conflicted feelings about this development.
Speaking to Cafe Casino, brand and culture expert Nick Ede, who was friends with Meghan, said: “I imagine Meghan would approach it with very mixed emotions. Britain was the setting for her wedding and one of the most extraordinary chapters of her life, but it is also associated with intense scrutiny, negative headlines and a period she has described as deeply painful.”, reports the Express.
“She would not be arriving as a new royal expected to learn an unfamiliar system; she would be coming back as an independent woman with her own businesses, profile and boundaries. That could make the experience feel much more manageable.
“She may never feel entirely relaxed about the British media, but a private home and clearly defined separation from royal duties could allow her to engage with the UK on her own terms.”
The reasons behind the couple’s decision to give Britain another chance remain unclear, though speculation has been mounting that Meghan has been presented with a UK-based acting opportunity.
Alternative reports suggest the relocation is simply down to Harry’s desire to be nearer to his father King Charles, and his wish for his children to receive their education in the UK.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have issued no official statement or remarks regarding their relocation, which saw them touch down in Britain aboard a private aircraft yesterday.
King Charles was informed of the move earlier this month, and is understood to be delighted that the family will be residing closer to him.
