It was a rather awkward morning on Talksport as top presenter Shebahn Aherne was caught on a live microphone trying and failing to say the name of Will Lankshear
Talksport descended into chaos this morning as top presenter Shebahn Aherne let a rather rude word slip out live on air. Aherne, presenting the Weekend Sports Breakfast alongside footballing legend Tony Cascarino, was looking back at Saturday’s action when the moment occured.
And when talking about Middlesbrough, she highlighted former Tottenham striker Will Lankshear, who scored twice against West Brom in the Championship. But she struggled to get the name out and it all went a bit mad from there.
She said: “Some of your headlines this morning: Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with a minimum of 22 million to sign Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace. Will Lankshear… Lank… w***… Lankshear!”
Cascarino couldn’t stop the laughter and simple uttered “oh dear,” as Shebahn continued to try and save face . . . hoping her producer had “dumped” the moment from the live feed – he had not.
She said: “”Oh dear. Oh dear, Will. Will Lankshear… scored twice as Middlesbrough beat West Brom Albion at the Riverside Stadium. Sam, did you dump that? He didn’t. Right, okay, good.”
And when Cascarino pointed out that she’d be annoyed if it was dumped, she hit back: “Why’d you dump that? It was only a really offensive swear word!”
She went on: “Yeah, I’ll pay the fine. The Ofcom fee . . . and Watford withstood huge second-half pressure from West Ham to maintain their unbeaten start to the Championship season and keep the Hammers winless.”
The pair quickly went off air as an interview with West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santos was played, only for them to return a minute later as if nothing had happened.
The moment went out live on YouTube, but would also have been picked up on TV via the various streaming apps that Talksport is available to view on.
