The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been living in the Cotswolds since their return to the UK last week, with their children Archie and Lilibet said to be enrolled in a British prep school
The Duchess of Sussex is said to be anxious about doing the school run while her family’s security situation remains unresolved, according to a friend.
Harry and Meghan, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, have resided in California for six years since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 in pursuit of personal and financial independence from the monarchy. Now, as they return to Britain, it’s believed they’ll settle in the Cotswolds, with the children set to start at UK schools come the new academic year in September.
They touched down in the UK on Wednesday, ready to embark on their new life back in England. This unexpected change of heart follows their private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla in July.
The couple are rumoured to be residing in a non-royal property in the Cotswolds, although this has yet to be confirmed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly relocated because they wanted their children to receive a British education. Some pundits have also speculated that Charles’ ongoing health concerns could be another potential factor.
The Duke of Sussex has repeatedly requested his security detail be reviewed by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), but is reportedly still awaiting the outcome he seeks. Harry appears to have been given renewed hope of securing taxpayer-funded security, following an order for a new review of the terror threat against his family.
Insiders have disclosed to the Mirror that the Home Office is “actively assessing” Harry’s case anew following a personal letter from the Duke of Sussex to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, requesting a fresh evaluation of his security circumstances.
Since their arrival last week, the couple has scarcely ventured out, with Meghan reportedly concerned about driving Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to and from their prep school.
A regular drop-off and pick-up schedule heightens the security risk, according to a friend. As reported by The Sun, the friend stated: “The school run is a tricky issue and I understand they are nervous about it.”
Regarding the protection system, a Government spokesman said: “It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”
