A 32-year-old man has died following a serious assault at Liverpool Street’s Central line underground station, with a suspect remanded in custody and due to appear in court
A 32-year-old man travelling back home from Notting Hill Carnival has tragically died following an assault at a Tube station.
Emergency services responded to reports of a serious attack at the Central line underground station at Liverpool Street around 10.51pm on Sunday. Upon arrival at the eastbound Central line platform, officers and paramedics discovered the victim in a critical state, who was then rushed to hospital.
Surrounded by his family, the victim sadly passed away two days later in hospital (Tuesday, September 1). Before the man’s death, the Crown Proseciation Service had authorised a charge of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) against Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Barking, in relation to the incident.
Following the victim’s passing, the British Transport Police are now seeking to amend the charge on the indictment, which will be addressed at a future court date.
Maximo, 38, has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today, September 2.
BTP Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn stated: “First and foremost our thoughts are firmly with loved ones of the young man who has sadly died. They are being supported by specially trained officers as our investigation continues.
“The victim was travelling back from Notting Hill Carnival at the time of the incident, and we continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and assist our investigation.”, reports MyLondon.
