The Bayeux Tapestry has been torn on its journey to Britain. Experts say the ancient artwork has been damaged.

At around 70 metres long, the Bayeux Tapestry is one of the world’s most famous works of medieval art, depicting William the Conqueror’s famous 1066 victory in the Battle of Hastings.

The Tapestry will go on display in the British Museum later this month, marking the first time it has returned to the UK since it was taken to France in the middle ages. However the Tapestry has been damaged in transit to London in a shocking turn of events.

Experts looking over the Tapestry’s move to Britain have stated two threads of the artwork have been torn during the move. Despite this they have confirmed “no major damage” has been delivered to the artwork.

French minster Catherine Pegard told the RTL broadcaster: “A break of two threads over a length of 70 meters of a tapestry was reported.” The French Minister of Culture added the Tapestry was more or less “in the same state.”
