Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to the UK for an “extended stay” in the Cotswolds with their two young children, and the Duke is said to be keen to mend his relationship with King Charles III
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have swapped the sunshine of California for the rolling hills of the English countryside, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex make a dramatic return to British soil. The couple, along with their children Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, touched down on a private flight on 26 August, 2026, marking the end of a six-year chapter in the United States.
The family have chosen to put down roots in the Cotswolds rather than settle in the capital, with the picturesque region set to become the backdrop for this new phase of their lives. Back in Montecito, their California property remains unsold and off the market, suggesting the couple are leaving the door open for a possible return to America further down the line.
A representative for the couple confirmed they have no plans to resume official royal duties. They’ll be living in the UK purely as private citizens.
A key factor in the move is their children’s schooling. Both Archie and Lilibet are already enrolled to start at a British school this September.
Prince Harry is also reportedly eager for his kids to forge a bond with their grandfather, King Charles III, who is currently dealing with health problems. The King was informed about the move in August and has seemingly welcomed the chance to spend more quality time with his grandchildren.
Nevertheless, one relationship expert has cautioned Prince Harry that he should ‘manage expectations’ if he wants to repair things with his father.
Relationship and Sex Therapist Georgina Vass told us exclusively: “Rebuilding meaningful connections can take time after distance apart.
“One helpful strategy could be to manage expectations by getting comfortable with the discomfort that the revitalisation of past relations may be happening at a slower pace than is desired.”
These comments follow Georgina’s warning to Prince Harry and Meghan that they must ensure the move doesn’t ‘expose any cracks’ in their relationship.
She explained that challenging situations can act as relationship stress tests for couples, particularly when matters unfold in the public eye.
The expert noted that such pressure can reveal existing vulnerabilities, though it can equally strengthen partnerships when both parties collaborate as a united front rather than adversaries.
When asked how the couple can protect their relationship against the pressures of relocating, Georgina shared: “Difficult experiences can strengthen relationships if both partners choose to respond by moving closer rather than further apart.
“Shifting the mindset to ‘us vs them’ can allow a couple to focus on their shared goals or values and their endurance can deepen their connection.”
She further stated: “Staying emotionally connected during conflicts, tolerating disappointment or losses together, and maintaining trust through consistent engagement can help couples to emerge with a stronger bond, enhancing feelings of loyalty and mutual support.
“Relationships fortified by adversity can develop greater resilience, honesty, and confidence in their ability to weather difficulty together as a team.”
These comments also surface alongside reports that Prince Harry will ‘adopt a new title’ now he’s resettled back in the UK.
Insiders suggest he’ll assume the primary, “at-home” parent role for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In this new setup, Harry is expected to manage the daily routine, including school runs, preparing packed lunches, and attending school events.
This change will enable Meghan to commute between the UK and California to oversee her lifestyle brand and explore potential media ventures.
