Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has been left in the doghouse after his wife Liz accused him of taking things “too far” on their family farm. The former soap favourite was left holding the fort while Liz was away for a couple of days, but his idea of entertaining their kids did not go down well with his spouse.

Unveiling his rough-and-ready alternative to a luxury setup during a recent heatwave, Kelvin admitted Liz was far from pleased when she checked her phone to see what he’d been up to on their 120-acre Peak District plot.

Speaking live from their farm on ITV’s This Morning, fresh off being shortlisted for an National Television Award, Kelvin said: “Liz wasn’t happy about this. Earlier this year, obviously with the heatwave, I dug a bit of a pool.

“I thought, ‘Come on, kids, this is our version of a paddling pool.’ It was not quite a swimming pool like the Kardashians might have, but it was shared with the pigs as well.”

He added: “Liz was away for a couple of days, and when I sent her a picture, she wasn’t best pleased when she saw the boys in the paddling pool with the pigs.”

A horrified Liz was quick to set the record straight, shutting down any idea that Kelvin had built a proper garden feature.

She said: “It wasn’t a paddling pool. It was a pool in the soil. Our children are already feral, but Kelvin always takes it to the extreme. I was like, ‘you’ve gone too far, Kelvin.'”

The hilarious domestic showdown comes as the pair prepare for an extended stint on screen. Following series four proving to be a big hit with viewers, ITV has officially commissioned series five and six of Fletchers’ Family Farm.

Despite playing iconic farmer Andy Sugden on Emmerdale for two decades, Kelvin admitted his soap background was completely useless when they swapped showbiz for agriculture.

He said: “It was never the plan to run a farm. Me and Liz were actually moving to California and that was our next adventure. But we find ourselves on a farm in the Peak District, which is not quite California.”

Liz said: “It would have been helpful if he had some experience from being in Emmerdale to help us, but he had none, so we have started from scratch.”

Teasing what fans can expect next, Liz added: “You guys are going to be sick to death of us because we are just on the telly all the time.

“We finished series five this week with our maze event and then we’re straight into series six, so it’ll be on telly very, very soon. We cannot wait.”
