Detectives have launched a criminal investigation into allegations Reform UK broke laws on foreign funding following a Channel 4 News broadcast last week.
The Metropolitan Police say they have received “a number of reports relating to donations and polling involving a political party” after the film aired. A spokesperson said: “All allegations under investigation relate to potential offences under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.”
Detectives are now seeking to obtain footage connected to the broadcast, produced by Channel 4 News and Verbatim Investigations.
The spokesperson added: “Detectives continue to liaise closely with the Electoral Commission and Crown Prosecution Service as enquiries progress.”
Reform UK have strongly denied the allegations and say the party will be assisting the police.
A party spokesman told the BBC: “Reform UK denies any wrongdoing and will fully cooperate with the investigation.We won’t be commenting further while a live investigation is under way.”
