Prince Harry has reportedly been contacting friends of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, in a bid to create a film about her for the 30th anniversary of her death next summer. A royal expert believes the documentary will see Duke of Sussex “divide himself away from the House of Windsor”.

The 41-year-old returned to the UK last month, accompanied by his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who are now residing with him at an undisclosed location in the UK.

The couple’s unexpected return to the UK was only revealed weeks before they landed on August 26, with King Charles reportedly being informed of their plans just three days before the announcement was made.

This follows a letter from King Charles clarifying Harry and Meghan’s royal status.

Speaking on Palace Confidential, the Daily Mail’s Senior Editor-at-Large Richard Kay disclosed that Harry has been reaching out to some of his late mother’s old friends in a bid to secure their involvement in a new documentary, reports the Express US.

Speaking to host Luke Blackall, Mr Kay said, “Diana has dominated the thinking of both William and Harry for the last 10 years.”

Addressing Harry’s rumoured project, he continued, “I am told that one of the reasons Harry’s here is to make a television film, his own film, about his mother.

“I know he has been reaching out to his friends and others who knew her, asking them to contribute. That’s going to occupy a lot of his headspace over the next 12 months.”

The expert went on: “Of course, it throws up that old canard. People always link Harry to Diana, but she was the mother of two boys. William is just as much his mother’s son as Harry is, and Harry has tried to claim the Diana legacy for himself, to William’s intense frustration.

“…This issue of trying to use Diana, the Spencer brand, the Spencer name, to divide himself away from the House of Windsor, I think is something we’re going to see even more of.

“Let’s not forget who Harry spent time with when he was here in July, it was Diana’s family at Althorp.”

Claims suggested that during his family’s visit to the UK last month, Harry purportedly stayed with his uncle, Earl Spencer, joined by Meghan, Archie and Lilibet.

Sharing snaps from their trip on Instagram, Meghan posted a picture of both Archie and Lilibet at what appeared to be the Althorp estate.
