More than 30 years of serving justice comes to an end next month when Judge Judy retires from TV at the age of 83 but she will continue to work behind the scenes on her son’s show
After three decades of courtroom drama TV icon Judge Judy has announced her retirement because she’s sick of doing her hair and make-up.
The tough talking 83 year-old’s current show, Judy Justice comes to an end in October after which she’ll be hanging up her hammer and robes. The original Judge Judy series is famous all over the world and broadcast internationally in roughly 150 countries.
Judge Judy AKA Judy Sheindlin said: “I don’t want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there.”
To get that “message out there” Judy is handing over the business to her 58-year-old son Adam Levy, who stars in the show Adam’s Law a small-claims court show in the vein of Judge Judy.
Judy will produce the show moving forward and she said: “There aren’t a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted…(he) has what it takes.”
Judge Judy began in 1996 and ran for 25 seasons winning three Daytime Emmy Awards. She also won an Emmy for more recent show Judy Justice which took over in 2021.
Judy said about her decision: “I don’t have to prove anything else. I did it” adding she doesn’t “think that I’ve ever been this content before.”
“I have a lot of other things of interest.”
Levy paid tribute to his mum’s impact calling her a “tough cookie” who made him pay for his own baseball cards as a kid growing up. Judy also has a daughter Sarah Rose who currently appears as a law clerk on Judy Justice.
You can still watch Judge Judy on the TRUE CRIME TV channel in the UK, while Judy Justice is available on Prime Video.
