A man has been rushed to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after a car driving the wrong way down the M1 crashed into his vehicle. Three people, including a 15-year-old girl, have been arrested
A 15-year-old girl and 30-year-old woman have been arrested a car drove the wrong way down the M1 before crashing into another vehicle.
A man has been rushed to hospital following the horror collision, which took place near Wakefield on Friday night. Emergency crews swarmed the area, with the smash leading to the closure of the northbound carriageway.
West Yorkshire Police said a blue Kia Proceed had failed to stop for officers while driving the wrong way up the M1 on the northbound carriageway. The driver of the Dacia, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.
Three people – including an 18-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman – have been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by reckless driving.
The woman was also arrested on suspicion of being over the prescribed limit. Another person allegedly fled the scene.
National Highways confirmed in an update on Saturday morning that the M1 had fully reopened in both directions.
Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
Meanwhile, one person and two police officers have been rushed to hospital after a horror crash between a van and a police car.
The collision happened in Dundrod outside Lisburn, Co Antrim, at around 7.25am on Friday morning. A male driver and the two police officers were hospitalised for their injuries after 999 crews swarmed the scene. Police haven’t confirmed the condition of the three hurt in the crash.
Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident. No arrests have been made. A PSNI spokesperson said: “At approximately 7.25am two vehicles, including a police car, were in collision in the Rock Road area of Dundrod.
“Police colleagues attended the scene, alongside colleagues from other emergency services and two police officers and a male driver were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage available from the scene, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 204 11/09/26.
