A map has pinpointed 34 potential targets Russia could hit in a conflict with the UK, following threats from the Kremlin to attack British military installations.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham recently revealed that the UK government would share designs for British-made parts of the Scalp missile to assist Ukraine in manufacturing their own.
This move sparked fury in Moscow, leading Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, to issue a warning that UK military sites and drone factories aiding or supporting Ukraine could be in the firing line. When Russian President Vladimir Putin was questioned about the possibility of striking British territory, his cryptic reply was: “That’s a secret, a military secret”.
The UK is home to over 2,000 military bases, including Aldershot Garrison in Hampshire, Colchester Garrison in Essex, Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire and Beacon Barracks in Staffordshire.
Among these are 34 Royal Air Force (RAF) bases, featuring key locations such as Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The map below illustrates where these bases can be found, reports the Express.
Concerns have also been raised that Russia could target British military bases abroad, located in countries such as Estonia, Poland, Romania, Germany, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
Since the war began in 2022, the UK has pledged more than £16billion in military aid to Ukraine.
BAE Systems subsidiary, Callen-Lenz, has developed the ‘Nyran Drone’ for Ukraine, which reportedly has a range exceeding 150 miles.
The firm informed The Times: “We deliver a range of capabilities into the UK MoD as part of the UK’s support to the defence of Ukraine.
“The Nyan uncrewed air system provides a rapidly developed platform proven in meeting emerging threats within highly contested environments.”
