South Yorkshire Police confirmed two children and a 21-year-old woman were taken to hospital following the incident at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham on Friday evening
Two youngsters and a woman have been rushed to hospital after suffering injuries when a fairground ride “malfunctioned”.
The incident unfolded at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham on Friday evening after reports of injuries being suffered on one of the rides. Emergency services rushed to the incident, with South Yorkshire Police confirming two children and a 21-year-old woman were taken to hospital.
Pictures circulating on social media showing at least six police cars in attendance on Friday and it’s believed an air ambulance was also sent to the scene. One person posting on social media said a car came off the track of the ride before crashing into another.
She said: “A car came off the track, and another one crashed into it.” She added several people had fallen from the ride and at least two boys had been injured.
Maltby Crags Funfair, presented by J Holmes & Sons, has been running in Maltby since Wednesday, September 9, from 5pm to 9pm. However, it is not known whether the fair will reopen following the incident. The ride that malfunctioned has not been identified.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham after two young people, aged 11 and 13, and a 21-year-old woman were injured while on a ride.
“They have been taken to hospital for treatment and the fairground has now closed for the evening (11 September).
“Blyth Lane was closed between Muglet Lane and Victoria Road to allow people to safely exit the fairground but has since been reopened.”
