The ex-wife of ‘Britian’s most notorious inmate’ Charles Bronson has been barred from seeing him inside the ‘monster mansion’ after she was dubbed a ‘security risk’
Charles Bronson’s 73-year-old ex-wife has been blocked from visiting the crook after the 4’11 OAP was dubbed “a risk to the security and safety.”
Irene Dunroe who still keeps in contact with Bronson – who she divorced in 1975 – has stated she is part of her ex-husband’s support network and has voiced her confusion on being deemed a risk to security.
The 73-year-old stated she received a letter in the post stating she “poses a risk to the security and safety” of HMP Wakefield, West Yorks, the jailhouse holding her ex-husband.
The 73-year-old works in an Ann Summers shop and has taken issue with the ban.
Speaking to the Sun Irene stated: “What threat could I pose? That I’m going to batter them with a sex toy from work? It’s completely stupid. I am a pensioner who goes to visit him using my bus pass.” Irene wed Britain’s most notorious prisoner Charles Bronson – real name Michael Peterson – back in 1971.
Bronson was locked up back in 1974 for armed robbery but received further terms for violence, GBH, hostage-taking and false imprisonment. Despite splitting from Irene back in 1975 the two remained mates after their divorce. Irene stated: “I am part of his support network, which he really needs right now as he’s going for parole.
“He is hopeful of getting it. He’s old now. He just wants a bit of peace.
“Although I’m now off his visitor and call list I don’t know if he’s aware.
“He may just think I’m not turning up. I am going to write to him, that’s all I can now do.
“But I know that sometimes in the past decades post has gone missing.”
Irene added since Bronson moved to Wakefeild his calls to her have become less frequent.
She also stated while Bronson normally sings hits such as When Will I see You Again and Frank Sinatra numbers to her, the inmate has been less vocal recently.
She said: “He didn’t seem as happy. I am going to write back and ask for the ban to be lifted. Since he’s been moved back there I haven’t been to see him.
“But I was planning to. Now I can’t. Even though we divorced we have remained close.
“People have described him in the past as “mad, bad and dangerous” – but that isn’t Mick now.”
The development comes after Charles Bronson staged a sit-down protest in his “Monster Mansion” jail after his apple crumble was “served without custard”.
Britain’s most notorious inmate was livid at the dessert snub and refused to leave the exercise yard at Wakefield Prison.
Warders in riot gear had to be called in to force him back to his cell in the jail’s segregation unit. The stand-off was triggered when the 73-year-old lag was handed his favourite dessert minus its essential accompaniment.
