Lady Amelia Windsor, 31, is set to marry property developer Ollie Lewis in May 2025, but has reportedly only invited one of the brothers to the wedding next year
Prince William and Prince Harry’s cousin has only invited one of them to her wedding – sidestepping a potentially uncomfortable situation.
Lady Amelia Windsor, 31, is a fashion model, environmentalist, and daughter of the King’s second cousin George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, and Canadian aristocrat and academic Sylvana Tomaselli.
Ms Windsor will be tying the knot with property developer Ollie Lewis in May next year, in what’s expected to be a huge occasion full of royalty and famous faces. However, The Sun reports that only William and wife Catherine, the Princess of Wales have received save the date cards – while Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been left out.
Ms Windsor wasn’t invited to Harry’s wedding at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the publication reports.
The newspaper quoted a source as saying the guest list has been carefully selected and finalised before news of the Sussexes’ arrival in Britain.
The pair had spent the past six years residing in California with their two young children, Archie and Lilibet, before making an unexpected return to the UK in late August, reports the Express.
The source reportedly said that the young royal “isn’t close” to Harry and Meghan, but excluding them from the list is “maybe it’s for the best as it saves an awkward run-in between the brothers at an otherwise special day”.
They added: “Of course she was snubbed from Harry and Meghan’s wedding so she doesn’t owe them anything.”
Harry and William, the heir to the throne, are not believed to have shared the same space since their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ funeral during the summer of 2024.
The relationship between the Sussexes and the Palace is understood to have remained strained in the years following Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior working royals in early 2020.
The couple notably captured global attention when they publicly aired grievances against the institution, speaking candidly about tensions with other members of the notoriously private family.
Despite the reported rift between the Palace and the Sussexes, while residing in the US, the Duke made brief visits to see the King, who is receiving cancer treatment, and called on him with Meghan and their children in July.
There has been speculation that the visit may have swayed Harry’s decision to relocate back to the UK.
After the Sussexes’ homecoming, the Palace emphasised that their position within the institution remains unchanged. Its most senior official Richard Benyon, issued guidance to top Government and military figures reaffirming the King’s stance on the Sussexes’ standing as non-working royals.
The correspondence highlighted that the pair are “no longer working Members of The Royal Family ” and that there is “no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”. “Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.”
The statement further clarified that the “charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity. In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests”.
The late Queen Elizabeth II famously convened a Sandringham “summit” in 2020 where it was reportedly agreed that the Sussexes couldn’t maintain a semi-royal role after stepping back from frontline duties, and were either fully committed or not at all.
