The US leader has boasted that the only ‘guardrails’ that AI needs are a ‘strong and smart (High IQ!) president’ and insists the US has it ‘in spades’
Donald Trump has claimed a “SICK conspiracy” has been launched against AI – as two heads of America’s largest AI companies have warned about the need to slow down the advancement of the tech.
The US President reckons this has been waged by “Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers” . Writing on Truth Social, he insisted no new regulations around AI were required.
He wrote: “The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’ – and we will continue to do so! We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!
He added: “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!”
“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China. WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so.”
Trump’s outburst comes as AI expert Jacob Coxon, a former employee of OpenAI and Anthropic, claimed there is a lack of “responsibility” in the AI industry that is “gambling” with human life .
Taking to the social media he penned: “I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic.
“Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.”
Coxon went on to advise his followers not to “underestimate the power of this technology”. He added: “These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionise any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.”
The development comes as a senior MP blasted tech bros for “hyping up how powerful they are” in an attempt to control the debate surrounding artificial intelligence.
Dame Chi Onwurah, chair of the Commons’ tech committee, has warned American AI giants are driving the conversation surrounding how to best regulate AI tech and claimed they don’t have Britain’s “best interests at heart”.
Dame Chi stated she agrees the world is facing an “existential threat from AI.”
Speaking to the Mirror she said: “We made the same mistake with AI that we made with the internet. We’re leaving it to the big tech companies.
“They said we can’t regulate it because it was so fast and too complicated or we couldn’t regulate it because it was global and we were just a little United Kingdom . Of course, this time, as well as all the social harms that come from the internet, we’re facing an existential threat from AI.”
