A nine-year-boy has claimed he’s “definitely cooked” after he spent £87K on ads for his Minecraft YouTube channel using his dad’s company credit card.

The youngster, named as Mike, who has a YouTube channel named the “Mighty Mike Plays”, blew the massive sum on advertising in a bid to pull in more viewers.

His dad, named Dave, was none-the wiser and allegedly only learned about the spending after being pulled into a work meeting.

Mike’s channel was meant to be a fun way of sharing video games he enjoyed but the hobby turned into a rather expensive habit. In a YouTube video released on Mighty Mikes Plays, Dave explained how it all happened.

He said he helped Mike create a small $20 YouTube ad campaign because the boy was frustrated his videos weren’t getting many views.

Dave unknowingly walked his son through the process of setting a budget, choosing an audience, and launching the campaign, not realising what close attention Mike was paying.

Dave had previously saved his company credit card to the same Google account from an earlier purchase. Mike later got creative and began creating campaigns himself, going on a mega spending spree.

Dave said: “He didn’t really register that there was supposed to be some kind of limit in his head. The logic was simple, I guess. More money, more views.”

Dave said he takes responsibility for leaving the payment method available and for not setting parental controls or spending caps. In the YouTube video, Dave asked his son whether he had anything to say. Mike replied: “I’m definitely cooked.”
