A top aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin his country will use the entire arsenal of forces and means at its disposal if Poland enters into military action against Russia
Russia has said it will destroy the capital city of a NATO country if war breaks out as tensions skyrocket within Europe. Nikolai Patrushev, a top aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to destroy Warsaw, Poland if war with NATO broke out.
“If Poland enters into military action against Russia, our country will use the entire arsenal of forces and means at its disposal, and Warsaw will cease to exist within two or three days,” Patrushev told Russian news outlet Argumenty i Fakty.
His threat comes after Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said NATO could “quite quickly” defeat Russia if attacked by Moscow. Poland joined NATO in 1999. NATO, a 32-member alliance, was formed in 1949 to counter the risk of Soviet attack.
It now focuses protecting ally counties by promising that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all.
Speaking at the annual Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv, Sikorski said, “If Russia attacked us and we took our gloves off, I think we would defeat Russia quite quickly.”
He added that NATO’s airpower superiority over Russia was overwhelming and spoke of the 2,500 military aircraft at the alliance’s disposal. Patrushev called Sikorski’s comments an “amateurish assessment of our country’s military might.”
He also said that Russia was not using “their full potential” in their war against Ukraine.
However, Patrushev reiterated reassurances out of Moscow that his boss has no intention of going to war with Europe, Metro reports.
