Manchester United crashed out of the Carabao Cup after blowing a two-goal lead against Brighton at Old Trafford, with boss Michael Carrick branding the Red Devils’ collapse as “unacceptable”
Michael Carrick has slammed Manchester United’s capitulation as “unacceptable” following their exit from the Carabao Cup as his side were booed off the pitch.
The Red Devils saw their two-goal lead at Old Trafford evaporate for the historic defeat as Brighton advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, where they will face either Manchester City or Norwich. And as United were leaving the pitch they were met with furious boos.
However, it didn’t end there, and, according to the Manchester Evening News, there were chants of “what the f****** hell was that”. Carrick proved he was just as angry as the fans as he delivered a bombshell post-match interview on Sky Sports.

The United manager fumed: “We can’t accept that as a group. I take responsibility for it. The performance towards the end of the second half, that’s on me..
“We have a big game on Sunday that we have to prepare for. We’re out of this competition and we have to go back to winning football matches,” reports the Mirror.
“It doesn’t feel good at the moment. It doesn’t feel good. We have to go back to winning football matches. We want to win and want to win quickly. The next game is Sunday. That’s all I’m thinking about right now.
Carrick conceded that he could comprehend the fans’ frustration as they booed loudly at the final whistle. Carrick added: “Yeah of course, that’s pretty obvious! I totally understand the feelings of the supporters…We have to accept it. I totally accept it.
“It’s on me ultimately: as a team what we look like, how we play and what results you get. I take that. I’ll take the praise, I’ll take the criticism and the upset. I totally understand it for the way the game went. We have got to win games.”
