Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer has made a bombshell claim about King Charles in his new book Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, alleging the King said the world would ‘forget’ Diana following her death in 1997
Earl Spencer has dropped a shocking revelation about an alleged remark made by the now-King Charles regarding his late sister. The 62-year-old discloses in his upcoming book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, that the monarch supposedly told him people would “soon forget” Diana, Princess of Wales, after her death in 1997.
Now Buckingham Palace has responded to the bombshell claims. A Palace spokesman said: “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss.”
Diana tied the knot with the then- Prince Charles in 1981 before they declared their separation in late 1992. The beloved royal tragically passed away at the age of 36 in Paris on August 31, 1997.
Her divorce from the now-King was finalised the previous year, in 1996, leaving behind her two sons, Princes William and Harry.
In his explosive new book – set to be serialised exclusively in the Daily Mail from Thursday (September 17) – Earl Spencer alleges that Charles’ comments were made during a heated dispute over Diana’s funeral arrangements.
The Earl reportedly told Charles that his late sister wouldn’t have wanted her sons to go through such a public ordeal, reports the Express.
It’s claimed that the now-King then questioned the Spencer family’s sense of duty before suggesting his ex-wife, whose death triggered a worldwide wave of mourning, would soon be forgotten.
The Earl wrote: “Prince Charles continued his stream of anger, without me interrupting. Then he stopped. I assumed the pause signalled an effort to bring himself under control, but then he unleashed down the phone what I have always taken to be his pent-up contempt for Diana, and his horror that the world was so bowled over by her death. ‘Rest assured,’ he hissed, ‘we’ll forget her soon enough!'”.

The Earl has revealed that he wrote the book to address “untruths” about his late sister.
Earl Spencer has allegedly maintained close ties with both William and Harry throughout the years, and is said to have welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children to his estate during their UK visit in July.
