England will return to action later this month in their first fixtures since suffering a heartbreaking World Cup semi-final exit to Argentina and finishing third
Thomas Tuchel has named his England squad for the Three Lions’ four upcoming Nations League matches. Tuchel’s men will take on Spain, Croatia and the Czech Republic twice in the extended three-week international break, which begins this month.
And Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been included by the England boss in his 27-man squad. It comes after the former Liverpool right-back was left out of Tuchel’s World Cup squad.
Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha, 18, is also somewhat of a surprise addition. The forward made his senior debut for England in a second-half appearance during the World Cup warm-up win over New Zealand, but was not in the squad for the tournament in North America.

Another surprise addition is Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze. The forward has struggled for minutes this term and is yet to start a league game in 2026/27 for Mikel Arteta’s team.
Perhaps a surprise omission, though, is Arsenal forward Noni Madueke. The 24-year-old has been a regular under Tuchel, with the England boss being a fan of the winger’s skillset.
Other notable omissions include strikers Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney. The pair featured in Tuchel’s World Cup squad, but Leeds star Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been picked instead.
Another player to miss out is Nottingham Forest talisman Morgan Gibbs-White. The midfielder has scored once and provided two assists already this term, but there is no place for him in the squad after also missing out on a World Cup berth.
England’s first fixture will be against world champions Spain on September 26 (7:45pm).
The Three Lions then take on Czechia three days later at the same time before games against Croatia on October 3 (5pm) and Czechia again on October 6 (7:45pm).
