Former England international Andros Townsend sensationally avoided a severe injury after being run over by a pitch roller. The ex-England international, who now plays in Thailand, was run over by the piece of heavy machinery during the warm-up before PT Prachuap’s 3-0 victory over Pattani FC.
The roller, with a driver aboard, is seen traversing the pitch before colliding with Townsend as he attempts an aerial backheel in social media footage showing the Prachuap players warming up for their Thai League One match.
Teammates of the former Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Luton Town attacker turned away in horror while the 35-year-old was left beneath the machinery in potentially harrowing scenes.
Incredibly, the winger emerged unscathed and even made a stoppage-time appearance off the bench once the game was secured.
In the coming days and weeks, Townsend will likely be inundated with requests for comments about the seemingly harmless yet terrifying incident, reports the Mirror.
This comes during his latest season in the Far East, having moved from Turkish side Antalyaspor to Kanchanaburi Power in the Thai Second Division in 2025.
The Spurs academy graduate was making just his third appearance for Prachuap, having joined them in the summer.
He was named on the substitutes’ bench after starting in the opening matches against Rayong and Sukhothai, with Townsend’s team climbing to second place thanks to their convincing win.
The former England star, with 13 caps to his name, made waves when he confirmed his move to Thailand. However, in a 2025 talkSPORT interview, he shed light on the rationale behind his decision.
“Towards the back end of last season, I was playing in Turkey, and I hadn’t been paid a few months’ salary.
“The club said to me ‘you can take your salary – but you’re never going to play for the club again’ so I took the salary.
“I hadn’t played since March, got a bit frustrated, so in the summer I said to Marlon [my agent] I don’t care where I go, just take me somewhere nice, interesting and tropical.
“He came back with one or two options in Europe but for some reason my gut was just really interested about the option in Thailand.”
