Disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is “living in limbo” while cops continue probing his links to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, according to his pals.
The ex-Duke of York is currently holed up at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk after being forced to leave the Royal Lodge in Windsor. Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday back in February over allegations he leaked top-secret intelligence to Epstein during his decade working as a British trade envoy.
Sources claim he’s now “making the most” of his low-key life in the Norfolk countryside and feels a “sense of relief” to finally be clear of the Windsor “bubble.”
However, dark clouds still hang over the former royal. Just weeks ago, Republican congressman Thomas Massie launched an attack in the House of Representatives, accusing Andrew of committing sex crimes on US soil and demanding prosecution.
Attempting to force the release of heavily redacted Epstein files, Massie said: “We want the perpetrators of these crimes to be investigated and prosecuted.” Andrew has denied committing any sexual offences.
Opening up about the royal outcast’s isolated situation, a source told The Telegraph: “While Andrew remains under investigation after being arrested by Thames Valley Police seven months ago, he has effectively been living in limbo.”
The source revealed that while Andrew faces no formal bail restrictions, he “cannot live his normal life” and struggles to “stray far beyond his home.”
They added: “In the meantime, Thames Valley Police seems to be no nearer being able to prove an allegation of misconduct in a public office, for which Andrew was detained back in February.”
The UK probe hit a major roadblock after the US Department of Justice refused to hand over unredacted files connected to the Epstein case.
Andrew has reportedly had no contact with Thames Valley Police since his initial arrest. He remains iced out by his brother King Charles, though it is believed he keeps in touch with siblings Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
Police widened their major crime inquiry in May to cover sex trafficking.
The disgraced former royal is alleged to have leaked confidential trade reports on Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore, alongside a top-secret briefing on rebuilding Helmand province in Afghanistan.
Andrew has always strongly denied any wrongdoing.
