Cole Palmer headlines three names who could be set to. withdraw from the England squad ahead of the international break
Cole Palmer is reportedly set to withdraw from the England squad – despite being recalled by Thomas Tuchel on Friday morning.
The German recalled Palmer to the Three Lions, after he was controversially dropped for the World Cup over the summer. However, Palmer is said to be set to be set to withdraw from international so he can manage his load.
According to The Athletic, Palmer is keen for a few weeks off after playing nearly every minute of Chelsea ’s 2026/27 season so far. Palmer’s 2025/26 season was overshadowed by injuries – and he might be keen to avoid a similar scenario.

Speaking about Palmer at the start of the season, Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso admitted said he believed the player’s injury troubles were in the past.
The Spaniard said: “I think that sometimes you need to go through a difficult moment with an injury or whatever to learn from that.
“I think that Cole has gone through a difficult period with the injury, and now he’s working really hard to have the prevention not to have to feel those symptoms.”
Tuchel might also be without the Manchester United duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford – who both featured in the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday.
Michael Carrick admitted Rashford had to be withdraw with “a bit of an issue” at Craven Cottage – with The Athletic suggesting it was a hip problem that he has been handling since the World Cup.
While Mainoo is also said to be managing an undisclosed injury that could rule him out of the four international fixtures.
England will start the international break against world champions Spain before trips to Czechia and Croatia before ending the break at Wembley with the reverse fixture against Czechia.
