A 29-year-old football has tragically died after he was involved in a horror motorbike crash.
Rijohn Jose sadly died after he was involved in a crash in the southern Indian city of Kozhikode on Sunday evening. According to local reports, he had been travelling with team-mate Gani Ahmed Nigam when they collided with another motorcycle.
The pair were rushed to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, but Jose was pronounced dead in the early hours of Monday morning. Calicut FC confirmed the tragic news with a statement on X: “It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Rijohn Jose of Calicut FC.

“Our heartfelt condolences to his family, teammates, friends, and the entire Calicut FC family. May they find strength and comfort in this difficult time.”
Calicut FC play in the Super League Kerala – a professional league in Kerala, a state in India, that operates away from the Indian Super League and has no promotion or relegation.
Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan has paid tribute to Jose: “Rijo, the key player of the Calicut FC team that won the first Super League Kerala in 2024, was a talent who made outstanding contributions to the football scene in Kerala.
“He, who donned boots for various prominent clubs in the country, met with an untimely demise while preparing for the new Super League season.
“We pray that Gani Ahmed, the footballer who was involved in the accident with Rijo and is currently undergoing treatment, recovers swiftly.
“Sharing in the grief of Rijo Jose’s family members, friends, and sports enthusiasts. Our respects.”
Nigam, who was also involved in the crash, remains in hospital with serious injuries.
Jose’s death comes days after Calicut confirmed their squad for the upcoming Super League Kerala season – with their season set to start on Friday.
