Arsenal could make a stunning swoop in January to bolster manager Mikel Arteta’s hopes of retaining their Premier League crown.

Julian Alvarez plot
Arsenal may renew their pursuit of Julian Alvarez come January with a potential loan arrangement being considered, reports the Mirror.
Spanish outlets have suggested via The Standard that the transfer could be revisited by the Gunners, following their unsuccessful summer attempt for the £128million-valued striker.
The Argentina star was eager to depart Atletico Madrid but favoured a switch to Barcelona. Nevertheless, Diego Simeone’s outfit blocked any move to their La Liga competitors at any cost.
With Alvarez having found himself relegated to substitute appearances following the summer saga, a temporary deal could reportedly become feasible when the next transfer window opens.
The former Manchester City ace has 49 goals in 110 games for Atletico. But so far this campaign he has failed to score off the bench on three occasions in La Liga.
England coach urges Max Dowman patience
England U21s boss Lee Carsley has called for patience with emerging talent Max Dowman.
Carsley anticipates seeing the youngster advance into his squad following his call-up to the U19s this month, but insists he won’t rush the 16-year-old into any senior age group at present.
Speaking about Dowman’s international prospects, Carsley said: “He’s definitely an outstanding talent. It’s inevitable that he’s going to be with the Under-21s because of his talent.
“But we have to make sure we do that at the right time, that he comes away with us and plays minutes and competes with the other players that are in his position.
“We had a similar issue a few years ago with Ethan Nwaneri. He was early and he made his debut and he’s done really well but there’s that tendency to push him on quickly.
“We have to be patient and make sure that ultimately we want them to play for the senior team for a prolonged period so we have to make sure we get the time right with that.”
Thus far, the Arsenal winger has featured 10 times for the U19s and registered seven goal contributions, demonstrating his innate ability to hold his own against considerably more experienced players.
