A former Premier League star is reportedly in intensive care after needing emergency surgery to remove part of his lung.
Dani Osvaldo, who played for Southampton in the Premier League, is said to have been admitted to hospital in Buenos Aires needing emergency care. According to TyC Sports, the 40-year-old had been struggling with chest pains, which are said to have worsened in the past week.
The report adds that, on Thursday, doctors found he had suffered a serious pleural effusion, where there is a build-up of excess fluid between the lung membrane linings and the chest wall. It’s claimed the procedure involved removing a small portion of lung tissue.

After the operation, Osvaldo, who who was born and raised in Argentina but played internationally for Italy, was moved to ICU where it’s reported he remains under close observation.
Osvaldo made his professional debut in Argentina for Huracan in 2005 – before moving to Italy with Atalanta in 2006. And he would embark on a journeyman career in Italy, who we has eligible to play for through his great-grandad.
The striker was on the books of Atalanta, Leece, Fiorentina and Bologna before he made the move to the Premier League.
Osvaldo spent two years at Southampton, making 13 Premier League appearances for the Saints – finding the back of the net three times.
He move on loan to Juventus, Inter Milan and Boca Juniors before leaving St Mary’s permanently in 2015 for Porto. Osvaldo retired form football in 2016, so he could focus on his music career, but came out of retirement after four years to play for Banfield.
Banfield had been his first club at youth level, but Osvaldo had never made a professional apperance for the club until 2020.
