Werder Bremen Legends and Real Madrid Legends had their friendly match momentarily halted for a hydration break fans coined “the best ever” after pints of beer and shots were served to players
A football legend’s match saw players drink a pint of beer during the game as they were served shots and pints in the “best hydration break ever”.
The match was taking place at Weserstadion, home of the Bundesliga outfit, with the extended international break remaining in full swing. Bremen claimed a 4-3 victory over their Madrid counterparts in Germany on Saturday afternoon, with the match commemorating the 100th anniversary of their home stadium.
During the game, a hydration break saw members of staff carrying a beer and a shot on a tray onto the side of the pitch for the players. Bremen star Ailton, who made more than 200 appearances during his time with the German club, could be seen drinking a pint of beer on the side of the pitch while offering his appreciation to the crowd at the Weserstadion.

Fans online hailed it as the “ultimate” hydration break with “proper” refreshment.
The game ended in a 4-3 victory to Bremen, with Sokratis, Markus Rosenberg, Angelos Charisteas and Diego scoring for Bremen, with Ruben de la Red Gutierrez, Jose Callejon and Agustin Garcia Iniguez all on the score sheet for Real.
It was the first time that the two clubs have been involved in a fixture between each other since they met in the Champions League group stages back in 2007, where Bremen claimed a 3-2 victory on home soil.
Bremen were managed by the club’s former player and manager, Thomas Schaaf, who expressed his delight at the occasion after the final whistle.
“There are so many incredible years and memories to look back on, from being a young boy watching from the stands to the huge games we were fortunate enough to experience,” Schaaf said.
“The Champions League was obviously one of the highlights. I still get goosebumps when I think about my first game as head coach.
“You could immediately feel the excitement inside the stadium. It’s difficult to single out just one moment because each one has its own special significance.”
