Liverpool are considering making two new signings as Andoni Iraola prepares to face Manchester City next in the Premier League, in what will be a heated clash at Anfield
Andoni Iraola has got off to a bright start as Liverpool manager but will soon face his sternest challenge yet since taking over at the club.
The Reds are undefeated in all competitions and handily placed in sixth in the Premier League, just six points behind leaders Manchester City, who next travel to Anfield to face their title rivals. A victory would see Liverpool move within three points of Enzo Maresca’s side, who could also face a huge points deduction, relegation or even expulsion from the division, after being found guilty of all but one of the 115 financial charges brought against them by the Premier League.
Liverpool meanwhile have appointed Julian Ward as the club’s new sporting director, replacing Richard Hughes after his controversial exit this summer. It will be Ward’s second stint in the role, having first held the position during the 2022-23 season, when his signings included title winners Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Alexis Mac Allister. Klopp favourite could be re-signed
Liverpool are reportedly weighing up bringing back Wirral-born midfielder Tyler Morton.
After progressing through the Reds’ academy system, Morton made his first-team bow under Jurgen Klopp in 2021 before temporary moves to Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.
Despite Klopp being a big admirer of the young player, he didn’t feature in a single Premier League match during Arne Slot’s title-winning season and was subsequently allowed to join Lyon in the summer of 2025 for a fee of £15million, reports the Mirror.
The 23-year-old has since been earning plaudits in France and is reportedly drawing interest from both the Reds and Juventus, as per the Tutto Juve website. The Serie A heavyweights are on the lookout for a seasoned young midfielder.
Conversely, the Reds are said to be ruing their decision to let Morton leave and are seriously contemplating bringing him back to Merseyside.
Morton has so far made 10 appearances this season for Lyon, who currently sit second in the Ligue 1 standings, just two points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
Reds mull over £47m decision
Liverpool are already pondering whether to make Ronald Araujo’s loan move permanent following his promising start at Anfield.
The 27-year-old accepted a wage reduction to enable the move, with the club having an option to purchase him for £47million should they deem it a success.
Araujo’s adaptability has proven particularly beneficial to Iraola. Having begun the season in central defence, the Uruguayan international switched to right-back, impressing in both positions and becoming a firm favourite with fans.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Reds are already inclined to exercise their non-obligatory option to sign Araujo on a permanent basis next summer. If his current form persists, £47m could prove to be a steal.
It appears the player himself is keen to stay in England, having reportedly purchased a property near the Reds’ training facility for him, his wife and his two daughters.
He is also said to be taking regular English lessons with a private tutor.
