Daniel Greaves, 35, was given a two-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children at Hull Crown Court on Monday
A paedophile who possessed more than 110,000 indecent images of children across 76 devices has escaped prison. Daniel Greaves, 35, of Station Road, Patrington, East Riding of Yorkshire, admitted three charges of making indecent images of children.
He received a two-year suspended sentence, was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation at Hull Crown Court on Monday (September 28).
Greaves will also remain on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration.
PC Sophie Newbon, who spearheaded the investigation, said: “The sheer volume of images and videos that Greaves had collected of young children using the dark web in an attempt to get away with his disgusting behaviour, was absolutely appalling.”
Humberside Police said it launched an investigation in March 2024 following a tip-off that Greaves possessed a cache of indecent images. Officers discovered tens of thousands of videos and images of children on phones, computers, hard drives and servers seized following Greaves’ arrest, reports the Express.
Police said Greaves amassed his vile collection over nine and a half years, with forensic specialists having to develop an entirely new approach to handle the volume. Of the seven devices examined by specialists from the total haul, there were more than 100,000 images and videos alone submitted as evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Pc Newbon stated: “Greaves went out of his way to scour the internet and download thousands of indecent images from across the web all for his own perverse gratification.”
She highlighted that such investigations are “extremely complex”, praising officers for their patience and determination in presenting a significant amount of evidence to the courts.
The officer suggested that the sheer volume of evidence led Greaves to decide to plead guilty. Pc Newbon said: “The extremities the team were exposed to whilst reviewing them all cannot be underestimated.”
It comes after a paedophile who took thousands of pictures of women and girls and used AI to “nudify” some of them was repeatedly bailed to his flat that overlooks a children’s playground, the Daily Star previously reported.
Zafer Dogan, 32, took photos of adults and children going about their “daily business” without their knowledge or consent and used AI software to digitally alter them into sexually-explicit images. He was jailed for two years and four months.
