Queen Victoria Road, Brewery Lane, King’s Road and St Thomas’ Street are among the streets to be taped off by police as officers guard the cordon.
A police dog unit is also on the scene.
Northumbria Police have been contacted for further information and we will bring you updates as we receive them.
