Charity hero Sir Kevin Sinfield will be joined by rugby playing son Jack as he delivers the match ball for the rugby match at Old Trafford as the rugby legend completes another MND fundraising challenge
Charity hero Sir Kevin Sinfield will deliver the match ball for today’s (Sat) Super League Grand Final as he completes another epic MND fundraising challenge. His son Jack, 22, will feature in his first final for Wakefield Trinity in the clash with Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford.
It comes as his dad tries to finish running seven ultra marathons in seven days and stopping at all 12 English Super League clubs along the way, culminating in a special match for the Sinfield family.
Sir Kevin, 46, is aiming to finish his gruelling challenge by coming onto the pitch in Manchester with the match ball and his lad Jack by his side.
The rugby icon has helped raise more than £11m for charities in memory of pal Rob Burrow who died from motor neurone disease in 2024.
And Jack admitted he has been missing his dad. He said: “I’ve spoke to him a little bit, but obviously he’s been really tired.
“I think I’ve said already that when he planned this last challenge and for it to finish at Old Trafford, I don’t think even he could have imagined that I would be playing in it. So it’s worked out pretty well.
“I’ve obviously missed him a lot when he’s been away because I’m still living at home, so it’s really weird around the house without him.”
Jack grew up watching the Leeds Rhinos legend win the Super League seven times and knows it’s his moment to try and “emulate” his dad.
He told Sky Sports: “My first ever rugby league game was the 2004 Grand Final when I was three weeks old.
“I have been to every single one of the Grand Finals my dad has played in but the last one really stands out in 2015.
“I had just turned 11 then so that’s the one I really remember the most, knowing it was his last game as well.”
Sir Kevin has raised more than £1 million for the MND Foundation with his seven-day run this week.
The number seven is in honour of the shirt number his ex-team mate Rob wore for Leeds Rhinos.
And the rugby legend and his team got a visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales on their stop at Wakefield Trinity, West Yorks, on Tuesday.
