And now dippy eggs and soldiers have been voted the most nostalgic British dish of all time.
The family favourite topped the list at 39 per cent, ahead of Angel Delight (38 per cent), fish fingers, chips and beans, jelly and ice cream, and beans on toast (all 37 per cent).
Also in the top ten is apple crumble and custard (32 per cent) and fairy cakes (27 per cent).
According to 2,000 UK adults surveyed as part of research by St Ewe Free Range Eggs for their For the Love of Egg campaign, more than a third (35 per cent) believe that food can instantly transport you back to childhood, while 31 per cent describe these dishes as the ultimate comfort food.
And dippy eggs remain a popular choice in the present day, with 14 per cent of adults still consuming them for dinner, 17 per cent eating them as a late-night snack and 19 per cent turning to them when they need cheering up.
