Gardaí have launched an urgent appeal following the tragic death of a young mother-of-two who died in hospital days after sustaining a “catastrophic” injury in a road traffic collision in Dublin. Danielle O’Keane, aged 37, suffered a “life ending brain injury” following a devastating crash on North Wall Quay, Dublin at around 11pm on Saturday night.

On the evening of the fatal collision, Danielle, from Newry, was travelling to Dublin city centre with friends after watching Westlife at the 3Arena when the rickshaw she was in struck a kerb.

Danielle was immediately taken to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for treatment of severe injuries and remained in ICU on life support. No other casualties were reported.

After courageously battling for her life in hospital for several days, Danielle tragically succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, October 1, reports the Irish Mirror. Gardaí are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

A garda spokesperson said: “Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the vicinity of North Wall Quay on Saturday, 26th September 2026 between 10:30pm and 11:15pm, are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”

Heart-wrenching tributes have poured in for Danielle following her devastating passing, with many remembering her as “the most beautiful girl and devoted mum”.

One mourner shared: “Danielle was one of the friendliest and kindest people. It was a pleasure working with you all those years ago. Thinking of your whole family at this extremely difficult time. Rest in Peace Danielle.”

Another individual added: “The saddest possible outcome for this brilliant girl I am honoured to have known and worked with. Strength and love to Dave, her wee babies and entire family circle at this incredibly hard unimaginable time.”
