Anyone heading to Tesco has until October 18 to snap up a new deal aimed at motorists. The supermarket giant operates roughly 600 petrol stations nationwide – and has rolled out a scheme offering customers 8p off per litre.

Costs have skyrocketed in recent months due to upheaval in global markets triggered by the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and Russia’s continuing war in Ukraine. Government ministers have attempted to calm public fears over supply concerns as prices hit £2 a litre for the first time.

The earlier record high stood at 199.09p, achieved in June 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Tesco’s promotion will provide drivers with some relief – though there’s a cap of £8 off per tank.

Shoppers who splash out £60+ in-store at Tesco by Sunday 18 October will receive a voucher with their receipt for 8p off per litre of petrol or diesel at a Tesco forecourt.

Customers then have until Sunday 25 October to use their fuel voucher by scanning it at the petrol station till. This means payment for fuel must be made in person, so it cannot be utilised at pay-at-pump facilities.

The maximum saving is £8, which is £2 lower than when this promotion last ran in August. Given that the typical person fills up 35 to 45 litres of fuel, most drivers will probably save around £2.80 to £3.60.

Tesco states there are over 500 participating petrol stations (locate your nearest one). This offer excludes the Isle of Man, Tesco Express outlets where Esso fuel is sold, unmanned petrol stations, and pay-at-pump facilities.

You’re limited to one voucher per transaction, and must purchase more than £1 worth of fuel. Check the complete offer terms and conditions.

You can claim it at qualifying Tesco-branded forecourts across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Tesco Express shops selling Esso fuel and locations in the Isle of Man are ruled out, so a Tesco store beside a forecourt doesn’t guarantee the voucher will be accepted there.

Use Tesco’s outlet locator to search for a Tesco Petrol Filling Station and confirm that a manned kiosk will be operating when you plan to visit.

The £60 minimum purchase at Tesco excludes: lottery tickets, e-top up, savings stamps, postage stamps, carrier bags, prescription medications, infant milk formula, and transactions made at any café, tobacco counter, opticians, mobile phone shop, concessions, Travel Money, Tesco Bank, and Tesco Whoosh.

Despite this offer, Tesco might not be the most affordable spot to fill up your tank. Use a free resource like PetrolPrices.com to find the cheapest filling stations near you.

What qualifies towards the £60 Tesco purchase?

The deal applies only to qualifying in-store purchases, meaning Tesco home delivery, Click and Collect orders placed online, or Whoosh orders won’t qualify for the fuel voucher. Certain products and purchases from separate counters are also ruled out.

This becomes particularly important when you’re approaching the £60 threshold, as the total shown on your receipt might differ from the amount that actually counts towards the offer.
