Biohacker Bryan Johnson says he was left bloodied after a violent night terror made him throw himself off the bed, reviving a “significant problem” that once put him in hospital
Controversial biohacker Bryan Johnson has revealed he was left bloodied after a terrifying sleep episode, saying the return of night terrors was once a “significant problem” in his life because he would regularly injure himself.
The tech entrepreneur, famed for his multi-million dollar “Blueprint” longevity regime, shared the ordeal in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday (October 6), detailing how he hurled himself off his bed during the night.
“Last week I had a night terror, throwing myself off the bed and bloodying up my back, sides and arms,” Johnson wrote. He said the nightmare felt so real he physically acted it out, adding: “I dreamt that I was on a runaway train and jumped off in a panic.”
Johnson explained he had suffered from night terrors years ago, but thought he’d beaten them. He wrote: “They were a significant problem in my life as I’d frequently seriously injure myself.
“I ended up in the hospital once from it.” The longevity fanatic then claimed he investigated what may have triggered the relapse, and pointed the finger at a brutal mix of altitude, sleep disruption and late nights.
“I did some research and it seems that they coincide with sleep deprivation,” he wrote, saying they can hit “1-3 hours after sleep onset”. He said it added up because in the run-up to the episode he had broken his famously strict routine.
“This makes sense why I had one: I spent five days at 7,000 ft while also missing my bedtime for consecutive days for social events,” he wrote. Johnson said moving from sea level to altitude can cause “acute sleep disruption”, warning: “Full acclimation happens over several weeks”.
He also used the post to explain the science behind why night terrors can be so dangerous. He wrote: “People mistakenly think that bad dreams happen in REM but during REM your brain chemically paralyzes your muscular system so you can’t act out.
“Night terrors happen during deep slow wave sleep (stage n3) when your muscles aren’t paralyzed, putting you at risk of doing something dangerous with your body, like I did.”
This comes after the 49-year-old tech mogul shocked followers on X by posting a detailed lab breakdown of his 19-year-old son Talmage’s semen analysis, the Daily Star previously reported.
Proving that oversharing runs in the family, Johnson gleefully declared his lad boasts a staggering 759 million sperm count, putting his swimmers in the “top 1% of men his age” and 19 times above the World Health Organisation minimum.
