Prince Harry has revealed he “slipped into depression for two weeks” after he and wife Meghan sensationally quit the UK. The Duke of Sussex admitted he experienced a “crash unlike anything I’d ever felt before” after ditching his royal duties to start a new life in the US – dubbed ‘Megxit’.

Discussing grief with a neuroscientist on an episode of MasterClass , Harry opened up on his feelings after arriving in Canada in late 2019.

He said: “Being in Canada, away from the stressful environment where presumably my body was just pumped full of adrenaline, within two or three days, I experienced this adrenaline crash, something that I’d never experienced before.”

He added: ““It was as though I needed stress for my brain to function. I became useless around the house. I slipped into depression for about two weeks and felt like I couldn’t function without adrenaline.””

Meghan and Harry returned to the UK over summer with their their two children, Archie and Lillibet, after spending six years living as private citizens in California.

Speaking in a new MasterClass interview named Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss, Harry joined neuroscientist Dr. Mary-Frances O’Connor to delve into the effects of grief on the body and brain.

He revealed he set himself a rule to spend “no more than 10 days away from my wife and kids”.

The Prince also revealed royal life left him unable to grieve the death of his mother Princess Diana – and he had not cried for 20 years.

He said: “You would think I had the best help in the world.

“I’m a prince, for God’s sake, but I was still grieving and didn’t have any place to put those feelings.”

He said a therapist helped him to come to terms with his past and encouraged him to spray himself with his late mum’s perfume.

“It was like being transported to another time,” he added.

“It unlocked everything that had been locked away.

“Spraying my mother’s scent was almost like knocking certain bricks through so that I could see through and certain memories and experiences could start seeping through.”

The development comes after Meghan shared a rare glimpse of Lilibet’s voice revealing her daughter has picked up an American accent.

The Duchess shared the footage on Instagram on Tuesday, October 6, featuring her five-year-old daughter. The post incorporated nostalgic photographs from Meghan’s childhood alongside previously unseen images connected to her brand.
