United have reportedly tabled a scholarship contract to JJ Gabriel, despite the player’s representatives requesting his registration be terminated. Gabriel, 16, has not returned to Carrington since submitting his request to leave the club, reports the Mirror.
The Guardian reports that United have formally lodged a scholarship contract offer with the player. The Mirror reports that had they failed to do so, Gabriel could have moved to another Premier League club at no cost in January.
Domestic rivals would now be required to enter negotiations with United in the usual manner, where a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal determines the fee if the two parties cannot agree on a figure.
United would apparently be looking to receive in excess of £3million, plus a 20% sell-on clause. Should Gabriel move abroad, however, United would walk away with considerably less.
Scott McTominay return
Scott McTominay is being linked with a sensational return to United, two years on from his exit from the club. The Scotland international has found major success at Napoli, winning the Serie A title and becoming a key player for the Italian outfit.
However, Sky Sports Switzerland has now claimed that the midfielder could leave the club as early as January and United have already ‘enquired’ about potentially re-signing him. Real Madrid and Aston Villa have also registered interest.
Reports in Italy state that the midfielder has instructed his agents to try and negotiate a new deal with Napoli but he is “open” to the idea of returning to England.
If an agreement cannot be reached regarding a new contract with the Serie A side, then McTominay may decide to leave in just a few months time.
