HMRC had previously filed a petition reportedly seeking to have Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher declared bankrupt
Jamie Carragher will not be made bankrupt after the Sky Sports pundit has reportedly settled an unpaid tax bill with HMRC.
The BBC previously reported that the former Liverpool and England defender faced being declared bankrupt over an unpaid tax bill, said to be in the region of £700,000 and £800,000. The BBC said documents it had seen showed a case was filed against James Lee Duncan Carragher in August.
Speaking at the time, a spokesperson representing Carragher said: “This is a private tax matter that should have been resolved sooner, and the appropriate steps are being taken today to settle it. It is understood that the matter will not proceed any further and will be resolved imminently.”

The Press Association reports that Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed a bankruptcy petition against the 48-year-old TV pundit at the Insolvency and Companies Court on Tuesday, October 13.
The petition was issued in August but Kevin Hassan, for HM Revenue and Customs, told the hearing in London that the debt has been paid, with no figure given in court.
Carragher made 737 appearances for Liverpool, placing him second for all-time appearances for the Premier League titans, behind only the legendary Ian Callaghan.
The Bootle-born centre back and full back won the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup twice and the League Cup three times during a glittering career at Anfield.
The one-club man also lifted the UEFA Super Cup twice and two Charity Shields during his time with England’s most successful football club. He represented England on 38 occasions.
He is now a regular on Sky Sports, co-hosting its Monday Night Football programme. He also works for CBS on their Champions League coverage.
