A study found that a quarter of adults believe they’re the ones who spark the laughs when it comes to banter with buddies. A quarter even claim their partner thinks they’re funny
Millions of folk think they’re the funniest person in their friendship group. A probe into pals found a quarter of us believe we spark the laughs when it comes to banter with buddies.
And to try to prove it, 44% pointing to the reactions their WhatsApp jokes get, 31% claim they regularly have their mates in stitches down the pub, and the same number reckon they crack everyone up at work.
Around 27% say even their partner thinks they’re hilarious – while 31% reckon they’re funnier than their other half. According to the poll, we’re a nation of wannabe comedians, with almost two thirds (64%) convinced their circle of friends is the wittiest, funniest and smartest around.
The poll of 2,000 Brits, commissioned by Echo Falls, found 61% believe their friendship WhatsApp chat is so entertaining it deserves its own podcast. And four in 10 fancy themselves as a podcast host, according to the data.
Overall, 41% describe their group chats as “hilarious”, while 16% say they’re juicy and 8% admit they’re downright scandalous. The average Brit belongs to eight group chats, although just 25% love them all, 16% only enjoy one and 38% like just two.
Top conversation topics include memes (39%), banter (38%), work (36%), problems (34%), gossip (31%) and health (29%).
Taran Dhillon, of Echo Falls, said: “Group chats are where so many of our funniest, juiciest and most unfiltered conversations happen, from the post-night-out debrief to the friend who always has a story to tell.
“With our new research showing that nearly two thirds of Brits think their group chat could be good enough for a podcast, it seems we’re all a lot more entertaining than we might give ourselves credit for.”
