Desperate Housewives stunner Eva Longoria has admitted she would rather win a football league title than an Oscar after investing in a team when she was inspired by ‘Welcome to Wrexham’
Desperate Housewives stunner Eva Longoria swapped the bright lights of the walk of fame for the boardroom in 2021 when she acquired 50% of Club Necaxa. And the Hollywood beauty has now made a bold claim about her footballing future.
After being inspired by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, she splashed the cash on Mexican fallen giants Necaxa. They had been a domestic force at the turn of the millennia, but soon fell into disrepair.
Eva has since been joined by Reynolds and McElhenney as investors in the club, and she was subject to her own documentary last year as she looks to reverse their fortunes. “My dad can’t believe it. He doesn’t believe I’m ‘La Patrona’,” she said.

“I’ll always be his little girl…But I love sports because of my dad. My dad always watched the Dallas Cowboys, the Spurs, the Texas Rangers…Every sport, I watched with him. I love sports because of the drama, the excitement, the ups and downs.”
She added: “I invested in the Necaxa team because I saw a great opportunity, not only as a business venture, but also as a great way to showcase Mexico and the most passionate sport in this beautiful country, to put Mexico on the map.
“When I have the opportunity to put Mexico or Mexicans on the map, I will always do so. Whether I’m producing or directing, that’s my philosophy in storytelling. That’s why I wanted to do this with the docuseries because I knew there was a story there that we had to tell.”
However, her love for football is only seeming to get bigger as has now set a new goal. Speaking to L’Equipe, Eva proudly declared: “I’d rather win a title than an Oscar.”
There is no promotion or relegation in the Liga MX, taking away any jeopardy of tumbling down the divisions, but Necaxa have struggled to reach the playoffs during recent campaigns.
And Necaxa are currently languishing second bottom, after 11 games, with just wins to their name.
“Here in Necaxa, there’s a saying: ‘If there’s no suffering, it’s not Necaxa.’ I’m explaining this saying to them, because the fans have embraced the idea that you have to suffer to win,” she added.
“Rob and Ryan know a little bit about this, and we wanted to explore that idea in the series.”
Football is world away from Eva’s previous life – where she is best known for portraying Gabrielle Solis on ABC hit show Desperate Housewives. For her role she received her two Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Golden Globe nomination.
